Leicester/ Laurens,SC - On January 29, 2011 the Lord blessed our family with the birth of Elijah “Eli” Jack Oberdier and on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 his Heavenly Father called him home to celebrate his 4th birthday in Heaven. Eli was born in Buncombe County and had lived in Laurens, South Carolina for the past year and a half. He was a precious little boy who loved Ninja Turtles, climbing on everything, riding dirt bikes with his Daddy, hunting and fishing with his uncle B.J. and he also enjoyed riding bicycles and skateboards. Eli was truly full of life and was indeed a “little helper” to everyone and could even be found joining his family as they worked on their cars and trucks. Happy memories of our Eli eating his favorites- beef jerky, corn dogs, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, pizza bites and of course, ice cream, will be treasured forever. As we say goodbye to our cherished little son, brother, grandson and nephew,we have peace in our hearts knowing he has a special place in Heaven and is held in God’s arms. Let us never forget Eli’s own words that he shared with his family so often, “ Love you so much and so much! ” Eli was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jack Rathbone. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Amanda Rathbone and Gregory Allen Oberdier of Laurens, South Carolina; his newborn sister, Amilia Faith Oberdier of the home; maternal grandparents, “ Nana and Papaw,” Wanda and Stephen Neal of Leicester; paternal grandparents, “Granny and Papa”, Helen Lucy Oberdier and Randy Steven Oberdier of Clinton, South Caroilna ; “ Grandmaw”, Louise Oberdier of Laurens, South Carolina; a special uncle, B.J. Rathbone of Leicester and also many aunts and uncles. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton. Officiating will be the Reverend Ricky Surrett and the Reverend Bill Brown. Burial will be in Rathbone Family Cemetery in Candler. Serving as pallbearers will be Papaw Neal and Uncle B.J. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made in Eli’s memory to Crawford / Ray Funeral Home, 1 North Main Street, Canton, NC 28716 to help assist the family with funeral expenses.
