A Beautiful and Gracious Lady

Photo of Evelyn Mann Smith - 1937-2021

Clyde-  Evelyn Viola  Mann Smith, a truly beautiful lady that was blessed with a kind and caring spirit, entered into her glorious place in paradise on March 5, 2021.

Evelyn was born September 8, 1937 in Clay County, North Carolina to the late Clyde James Mann and the late Blanche Hall Mann. She had proudly called Clyde, NC her home since 1968 and everyone blessed to know Evelyn loved her. She had been a dedicated employee of  LN Davis Insurance Agency in Waynesville, retiring in 1999. Mrs. Smith held a strong faith and she was a member of Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church.  Evelyn loved life and she always brought happiness into the lives of those around her. She enjoyed mountain square dancing and was a member of the Southern Appalachian Cloggers for many years. Evelyn spent many hours gardening at home among her lovely flowers, and she also was an avid bird watcher, admiring all the many feathered friends that visited her home. Evelyn loved her family with all her heart and soul and she gave of herself selflessly to always taking care of others and those who might need her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip R. Smith who passed away in 2012; and her sister, Lillian Rowland.

Surviving are her daughter, Marianna Webb Honeycutt and Terry of Killen, Alabama; her son, Michael James Webb of Asheville; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Honeycutt Johnson and her husband, Bradley of Florence, Alabama, and Hunter James Webb and his wife Allbre of Canton; great-grandchildren, Parris Webb, Kenley Webb, Parker Johnson, Connor Johnson, Ryan Mack Edwards, and Jennings Webb; and many dear friends that loved her deeply.

A private funeral service remembering and honoring the life of Mrs. Smith will be held at The Historic Grove Church located at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens. Reverend  Barry Willett will be officiating.

The Smith family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Chelsea Johnson for all her kindness shown to Evelyn, and also they wish to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care for all of their love and concern for Evelyn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care, 13 Haywood Office Park, Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Smith family.

Condolences from family and friends

I am heartbroken to learn of Aunt Evelyn's death. She was like another mother to me growing up. My mom was one of her dearest friends. They are together again. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Evelyn and I have been close friends since high school. Although I moved to Texas in 1969, we always kept in touch . Anytime I visited My family in North Carolina, Evelyn and I always managed to see each other. I will miss her texts and phone calls very much. She was a beautiful person inside an out. My love and prayers are for her family who she loved so much.

Evelyn and I were friends for many years during high school and until her passing. I will never forget our trips to the beach and when we went out west. All our camping trips, I could go on and on. I am happy for her but sad for me. She will remain a part of me until I see her again. I love her family and grieve for them.
