Canton- Frances Parham Carter left this world peacefully for her Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Her loving family was at her side.

Frances was born December 15, 1929, in the heart of Haywood County, North Carolina, Frances graced our lives for 93 wonderful years. Her presence on this earth has been a source of warmth, love, and inspiration to all who were fortunate to cross her path.

Her family was the cornerstone of her life. To Frances, being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought her great joy and they each held a special place in her heart. She was a guiding light in all their lives and her love and support knew no bounds. In the words of her family, “She was our greatest blessing.” Her home was always a sanctuary of love and a place of peace and comfort.

Frances was a wonderful cook and she had been employed at Canton Junior High School where she worked in the cafeteria for several years. The children all loved Frances and will forever remember her happy smile and her kindness to everyone each day. She also worked in food service at the Canton Nursing Home where Frances was like a ray of bright sunshine in the lives of the patients.

As a dedicated member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Frances’s commitment to her faith was unwavering. She lent her beautiful voice to the church choir and Frances loved her church family deeply.

Frances’s love and compassion were not limited to her local community. She always reached out to those in need, volunteering with the North Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief Team during Hurricane Katrina and most notably, at Ground Zero in New York City during the tragic events of 9/11. There she provided nourishment, care, and a comforting presence to the disaster teams. What a testament her life has been to serving others.

Our hearts are greatly saddened by the loss of Frances but we also celebrate her life and hold close the lessons she taught us about love, compassion, and the importance of family.
