Loving Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend

Photo of Fred Alan Stamey - 1953-2018

Canton - Fred Alan Stamey, age 65, entered the gates of heaven on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Raymond “Curly” Stamey and his sister, Linda Stamey Holder.

Surviving are his mother, Jean Brannon Stamey of Lake Junaluska; his sister, Rose Ann Stamey of Anderson, SC; his nephew, Scott Holder and his wife, Amanda; a niece, Miranda Moore and great-nephews and a great-niece.

Fred was indeed a man with a big heart.  He loved fishing at Fontana Lake, his beloved wolfdogs, as well as NASCAR.  An important part of his life was when he was baptized with his family at Canton First Baptist Church many years ago. He was a graduate of Pisgah High School and he also attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.  Fred honorably served his country in United States Army.  Proudly carrying on the profession of his father, Fred was the founder and owner of Specialty Roofing in Canton. We give thanks for the life of a loving son, brother, uncle and faithful friend.

A Celebration of Life service for Freddie will be held Saturday, January 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Elks Lodge, 510 Dellwood Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.

In honor of Fred’s life, memorial may be made to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation at 256 Industrial Park Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.

Dear Jean, So terribly sorry for yours and the family’s loss. I thought so much of him and how he came to my home the very next night after you told me he would and measured and came back the next night and installed a second handrail so I could bring my husband home from Care Partners. He wouldn’t hear of me paying him a dime. He said “Momma told me to get it done” and that was that. He was a generous and caring man.
