Cullowhee - Gary Michael DeWeese, 66, passed away at home on October 28, 2021.  A native of NC, he was a subcontractor in communications and welding.  He loved camping, fishing, the great outdoors, and selling his boiled peanuts to vacationers and locals just for fun, with many amusing stories.  He had a keen sense of humor, and was a comedic storyteller.  He served in the Army as a construction equipment operator and was expert with M16 and first class with grenade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Betty DeWeese, and stepmother, Marynell DeWeese.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Dies DeWeese; children, Josh DeWeese, and Michelle Coley; and his adoring grandchildren.  He is also survived by sisters, Pamela DeWeese, and Cathy DeWeese (Walt Russell); niece, Tiffany Roten; nephew, Matthew DeWeese (Cory); stepsister, Gay Davis; stepbrother, Dean Russell (Thea); aunts, Maxine Brown, and Judy Wenzel; and several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.  He also left many great friends across the region.

A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date.

The family would like to thank friend Randy Beall, who stayed with Gary to help with his care, as well as Jackson County Hospice and Crawford Ray Funeral Home.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the DeWeese family.
