Canton- George Fredrick Rhodes, age 78, a man who loved his Lord and loved his family, passed away at his home with his devoted family by his side on Friday, July 31, 2020.

George was born September 29, 1941 to the late Thomas Nelson Rhodes and the late Dolly Hawkins Rhodes. He was blessed with a large family of sisters and brothers who all grew up in a home filled with joy, laughter and wonderful happy memories that they each have cherished throughout the years. George had made his home in Haywood County all of his life and there is probably not a mountain, hillside or meadow that he had not explored while growing up in the Cruso Community. He was a hard working farmer, dedicated to raising his sheep and cattle and had also been a faithful employee of Greene Brothers Well Drilling in Canton for many years. Mr. Rhodes was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church. George was so proud of his family and he was a loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He also held a special place in his heart for his little dog,"Izzy". Our precious memories of George Fredrick Rhodes will linger in our hearts forever, we are thankful for his life and for what he meant to his family. Let us each rejoice that he is in his glorious place in Heaven on this day.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas “Dewit” Nelson Rhodes, Jr., Kirk Rhodes, Marcell  Rhodes and David Rhodes and his sisters, Blanche “Polly”Church,  Joyce Williams and Vena McCall.

Surviving are his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Janie Williams Rhodes; daughters, Susan Phillips and Ricky Stockton and Sandy Ledford (Mike); grandchildren, Amber Gantt (Michael) , Brittany Rogers ( Jake) and  Dakota Rathbone ( Maddie), great-grandchildren, Summer Gantt (Thomas Fuller), Hailey Gantt and Finley Rogers and a great-great grandchild, Ridge Fuller and also another precious great- grandbaby on the way; sisters, Francis Shuff, Mary Jo Carver and Juanita Stines (Bud); many nieces, nephews and especially Ann and Carlos Espino.

It was a blessing to have known George over the years. He was a good man, and one of the few people that was real. Tracie talks a lot about George and how he taught her so many things about horses. His suffering is over and has peace and comfort in the arms of Jesus our Savior! You all are a great family and you stayed by his side. Doris and Denny Hall Randy.
