Candler – George W. Ledford, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born January 12, 1936 in Haywood County to the late Reverend O. P. Ledford and the late Dollie King Ledford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Kuykendall.
George had honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Korean War. He graduated from Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, and was employed with American Enka Corporation and with Sonopress, Inc. George deeply loved his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. We give thanks for the life of George W. Ledford and what he has meant to his family and his many friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Peggy Free Ledford of Candler where they had made their home; 3 daughters, Pam Trull (Steve) of Candler, Karen Clark (Jeff) of Rutherfordton, and Janine Butler (David) of Lyman, SC; 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Koutris; and 3 brothers, Johnny, Buddy, and James Ledford.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Ledford will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, March 29, 2021 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Canton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
