Grace Rogers Earley
"Sweet As Gold"
Leicester- Grace Opeline Rogers Earley, “Our Loving Mamaw Grace”, entered into her glorious Heavenly home on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
Grace was born on September 1, 1923 in Buncombe County to the late George Daniel Rogers and the late Cordie Bell Clark Rogers. As we reflect on her blessed 96 years of a wonderful and full life, we can truly say that she has been an inspiration to her entire family. She was an example of how we need to be more devoted Christians, reading her Bible, being kind to everyone, and never saying anything unkind about anyone. She was a lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Leicester. Grace’s heart runneth over with love for her family and her many friends and she was always there for anyone who needed her advice or guidance. She was indeed a strong and independent lady. She was employed with Mountain City Laundry in Asheville and after her retirement her work never ended. She kept busy cooking, working in her garden and even splitting and hauling wood in her wheel barrow up until her recent illness. She loved the outdoors and Grace often enjoyed taking walks and being at peace among the mountains that she loved. Grace was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her and in the words of her family, “She was as sweet as gold.” We have been blessed by the life of our beloved “Little Mamaw”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Robert Early who passed away in 1962; her son, Benny Robert Early; three sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are her devoted daughter, Georgia Ledford of Canton; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, “Tootsie” Rogers Hawkins and many friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Leicester. Pastor Bobby Smith and Pastor Tim Hyatt will be officiating.
Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Earley family.
