Grover Carroll Clevenger
A Godly Man
With thankful hearts and unwavering faith in God’s promises, we honor and celebrate the wonderful life of Grover Carroll Clevenger. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, “Big Papaw”, and faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, peacefully entered into his heavenly home on Monday, July 20, 2026. His life of 87 years has been a blessing, and to know him was to witness a life devoted to his Christian faith.
Grover was born April 11, 1939, to the late Ernest Clevenger and the late Mary Lou Caldwell Clevenger. He will forever be remembered as a man with a kind and caring spirit, and the life he lived was truly an example for each of us to follow. His faith was evident not only in the words he spoke, but in the life he lived each day. Grover was a charter member of Clyde Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and where he was deeply loved by his church family.
His working career was with Champion International, where Grover retired with many years of loyal service. He was a man deeply respected by his co-workers and friends for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Beautiful words from his family describing Grover’s life are so true and heartfelt: “Above all else, Grover cherished time with his beloved wife, Sue, and he devoted his heart to his faith, his church, and his family. He lived life with a craftsman’s hands and an adventurous spirit – whether he was traveling out west to Wyoming, hunting, fishing, or pursuing his passions for blacksmithing, whittling, and quilting. An avid collector and trader, Grover had a keen eye for antiquing and a deep appreciation for tradition, often found canning his fresh harvest or making apple cider with his trusty hand press. Some of his happiest moments were spent in his signature suspenders, sitting on his front porch enjoying the mountain air, watching a NASCAR race, or simply doting on his grandchildren and his great -grandchild, who brought him endless pride and joy.”
We shall forever hold precious memories of Grover’s life, whether through his gentle words of encouragement, lending a helping hand to someone in need or touching our hearts with his beautiful prayers.
