Canton- “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

On Thursday, September 9, 2021 Harold Fayne Shook peacefully entered into life everlasting with his loving family by his side.

Harold was born in the fall season of November 15, 1940 to the late Thomas Elwood Shook, Sr. and the late Odell Rogers Shook. He was surrounded by a loving and Christian family and his life continued to be a blessing each and every day of his 80 years of a full and wonderful life.  He was proud to call the mountains of Haywood County his home, where he had resided all of his life.  Mr. Shook honorably served his country in the United States Army having been stationed in Germany during his military career. He married the love of his life, Libby Mann Shook and together they built a home full of happiness as they raised their son and daughter instilling in them a strong Christian faith. Harold was employed with Dayco Corporation where he was known by friends and co-workers as “Zero” and retired with 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he spent his days doing what he loved best- raising cattle, farming his land, and planting a garden every year. Harold always made certain to plant a little extra, enough to be able to share with family and friends! With his boots, hat, and a big smile he would head out to his farm each day, a memory that will be forever cherished by his family. Harold was a faithful member of Maple Grove Baptist Church, where he had been actively involved and had held several positions in his church. He lived his life hand in hand with the Lord and he was a walking testimony of his great faith to everyone he met.  Harold was a wonderful husband and an amazing father and grandfather that will be deeply missed each and every day. A kind and humble man, Harold Fayne Shook will be remembered as a man with a servant’s heart and a true concern for others. His life was a portrait of devotion to his faith and his family. His family rejoices for a life well lived and the example of God’s grace Harold freely shared with all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Howard Wayne Shook, and also brothers, Morris and T.E.Shook.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Libby Mann Shook of Canton; his son, Shane Shook and wife Cindy of Canton and Melissa Shook of Weaverville; grandchildren, Maggie Shook and Carter Shook; a sister, Hiawatha McKinnish of Canton; a brother, Preacher Jack Shook and Shiela of Easley, SC; sisters-in-law, Ruth Shook of Canton and Margie Shook of Canton; several nieces and nephews and a special lifelong friend, Bill Holbrook.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, September 13, 2021 at Maple Grove Baptist Church in the Stamey Cove Community. Pastor Tommy Carlisle will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Shook’s memory to Maple Gove Baptist Church, Missionary Fund, 2501 Stamey Cove Road, Waynesville, NC 28786
