In Honor And Remembrance

Photo of Harry Lee Smith - 1946-2023

Harry Lee Smith, age 77, of Clyde, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at his residence.

He is joined in his heavenly home by many who have gone before him. His parents, Claude and Inez Smith; his sisters, Cora Mae Smith, Barbara “Bob” Henson, Virginia “Gin” Mathis, Mary Alice Smith and a brother, David Smith.

Harry leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Sue Singleton Smith; a brother Mike Smith (Becky); a sister, Vicki; sons, Shannon Smith (Julie), and Nick Smith; his two beautiful granddaughters, Madisen and Elizabeth; numerous special nephews and nieces, who fought over being his number one!

Harry was a proud Vietnam Veteran, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. After serving his country, Harry came home and was an employee at Champion Paper for 30 years. Following his retirement, Harry’s passion was wood-working, his family, and enjoying a cup of coffee with a Nutty Bar. He spent hours creating and making various wood pieces to be given away to family members and friends. Harry also made several wood pieces to be donated as fundraisers for local charities.

We would like to recognize Harry’s long-time pain management nurse, Mary Hoyle “Bo” Rosson.

A funeral service with military honors will be at 3:00PM, Saturday, October 28, 2023, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Officiating will be his son, Shannon Smith. The interment will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Harry’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Smith family.

I was a neighbor of Harry Lee's family for many years on Scot's Dale Road. Virginia went to school with me at Bethel High School and we talked on the phone until she got sick.; His family growing up were a special family and I remember them after all these years. I remember them as being good neighbors.. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
