A Special and Loving Lady
Waynesville – Mary Helen Mills, age 89, peacefully passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Autumn Care Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John Millard Mills and the late Burlie Medford Mills.
Helen, affectionately known as “Sissy” by all who loved her, was a member of Camp Branch Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the church pianist for many faithful years. She also taught Sunday School in the youth department, where she was an inspiration and an example for three generations of youth growing up in the church. Helen truly loved the outdoors and she spent many hours mowing her lawn, weed eating, and working in her vegetable garden. When remembering Sissy, we shall hold forever in our hearts her great love for the many children that brought her joy, just as the blessed joy she brought to each of them. Her kind and giving spirit will remain with each of us forever.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Almarie Campbell and Betty Jenkins; and brothers, Earl, Ralph, and Lowell Mills.
She is survived by one brother, Ray Mills and his wife Lois; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service to honor the life of Helen will be held at Buchanan Cemetery in Allen’s Creek.
Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Mills family.
