Jamie "Wino" Robert Nelson
Canton - James Jamie “Wino” Robert Nelson, age 55, passed away peacefully, Saturday May 1, 2021 in his home. He was surrounded by his family that he loved and a family that loved him back just as much.
He was born April 1, 1966 in Haywood County to Noreen Pless Nelson of Canton and the late James Ray Nelson. Mr. Nelson honorably served his country in the United States Navy for five years being stationed at the Sasebo, Japan Naval Base. He had been employed as an electrician and his work-related travels took him all throughout the region east of the Mississippi River. Jamie loved the outdoors, and was a great fisherman. A special place dear to his heart was camping at Hurricane Creek where he had made many happy memories with his family. Jamie was proud of his mountain heritage and he was a great fan of classic country music. He loved to dance and when Jamie stepped onto the dance floor, he brought a smile to everyone’s face as he took a partner and square danced the night away. Jamie loved his family and he often entertained at his home cooking and grilling out - his delicious ribeye steaks were his specialty. “Wino” as he was lovingly called by everyone that knew him, will be deeply missed. We give thanks for the man that he was, and together Jamie and Beth have been blessed with wonderful children that they taught the importance of kindness, fairness and to have great compassion for others. We have lost a man that will never be forgotten and we give thanks for him being such an important part of our lives.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Lewis and Weaverette Pless; and paternal grandfather and grandmother, Bud and Flora Nelson.
Surviving are his loving wife, Beth Patton Nelson; his mother, Noreen Pless Nelson of Canton; his children, Ashley Shelton (Craig Medford) of Canton, Chance Nelson (Marisa Caldwell) of Canton, and Hannah Sanders (Travis Sanders) of Canton; grandchildren, Devon, Elijah, Mason, and Dawson; his sisters, “Queen” Patricia “Sissy” Brooks (Steven), and Crystal Mehaffey; his stepmother, Jan Ramsey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his special caregivers, Deb and Rick.
