Canton - Dorothy June Smith Sorrells, age 83, peacefully passed away at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville on Monday, May 17, 2021.

June was born April 23, 1938 to the late Lonnie Smith and the late Vernie Blaylock Smith. She had made her home in Haywood County all of her life and she was a precious lady who was loved by everyone blessed to know her.  Mrs. Sorrells was a certified nursing assistant having been employed at Haywood Regional Medical Center and also at Canton Nursing Home. June always brightened the days of her patients with her sweet smile and her caring way. She enjoyed gardening each summer season and she kept busy tending her garden and canning a bounty of vegetables. June loved to square dance and it was a delight to watch her clog on the dance floor with The Rough Creek Cloggers.  Going antique shopping with her son Michael was something that she enjoyed every chance she could find and during her quiet special moments, June enjoyed solving her puzzle books. Mrs. Sorrells attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. Our beloved June may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JC Sorrells, Jr; a son Michael Mease; sisters, Maxine Sorrells, and Shirley Sutton; nephews, Rickey Sorrells, and Richard Smith; and brother-in-law, Leonard Sutton.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita Sorrells-Stephenson and husband Charles Stephenson of Clyde; grandson, David Sorrells and wife Crystal of Clyde; great-grandchildren, Jacob Sorrells, Levi McCall, and Noah McCall; a brother, Robert Smith and wife Jan of Candler; a sister, Mary Ellen Pressley and husband Carroll of Canton; nephews and nieces, Danny Smith, Carolyn Wilson, Danette Ledford, and Sue Ann Owings; great-nieces, Josie Owings, and Macy Ledford; aunt, Bessie Fish; and uncle, Charles Ray Blaylock.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sorrells will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, May 24, 2021 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jeff King will be officiating.

Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Church Cemetery Fund at 39 Robinson Rd., Clyde, NC 28721, or to CarePartners Hospice at 68 Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville, NC 28803.
