Waynesville, NC – Keneitha Gail (Welch) Bryson, 75, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, November 2, 2023 at her residence following a brief illness. Born March 19, 1948, she was a lifelong resident of Haywood County.

Keneitha was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to all. She was Librarian for over 30 years in Haywood County. She drove the bookmobile in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, worked in both the Waynesville and Canton Branch Libraries, and was able to share her love of books and the written word  with so many. Keneitha started several book clubs to encourage and inspire others not only to read the words, but to discuss and understand the sometimes-hidden messages, lessons, and symbolism. She was an avid reader and, at any given time, she may have been working her way through up to five books, not completely finishing one before starting another.

Keneitha’s true joy came from spending time laughing with her grandchildren and watching them grow up. Even in her most difficult days, she always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone who visited. Keneitha will be remembered for her beautiful soul, her willingness to help others and for her love of her family.

Keneitha was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Welch and Louisa Norman Welch.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny Bryson and wife Keely, of Clyde; grandchildren, Caleb and Kaylee Bryson, of Clyde; sister, Melissa Welch, of Canton; brother Bruce Welch and wife Marlene, of Clyde; niece, Amie Owens, of Franklin; nephew Whitt Winfrey (Laura), of Canton; a great-nephew, Cody Winfrey and his family, of Weaverville and many cherished friends.

Keneitha’s family would like to send a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Four Season’s Hospice for the care and compassion shown to her and the family during her end-of-life care.

There will be no formal memorial service per her request. She preferred to have everyone think of her and remember her in a way that was special to them. In lieu of flowers, donations of books may be made in her honor to the Canton Branch of the Haywood County Public Library, 11 Pennsylvania Avenue, Canton, NC, 28716.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Bryson family.

Many years ago when my sons were small, the Canton Library was one of our happy places. I had not seen Keneitha in a very long time, but the memory of her warms my heart. Rest in peace, sweet lady. You made a difference in countless lives.

I still miss seeing her at the library. She was truly a beautiful soul. We had some lengthy talks in the grocery store. She was a friend to everyone and her memory will live on. My prayers to her family.

Keneitha shall be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was two years older than I, but we shared a love of reading. Danny, your mother told me that you would go upstairs for bed but began reading. . . still with your ballcap on! (Remember, at Pisgah ballcaps had to be removed when a young gentleman entered the building!) She and I chuckled about this because your hair had a permanent impression where you cap had been!) I am sorry for your loss and know that your faith in the promises that Jesus gave us. . . "we shall meet again." In sympathy, Sharon
