Canton- Larry Marvin Robinson, age 73, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

Larry was born September 4, 1949 in Haywood County to the late Lawrence A. Robinson and the late Frankie Mae Stamey Robinson. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a six-year United States Army Veteran having honorably and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Mr. Robinson was a member of the 61st Aviation Company, 3rd Flight Platoon known as "The Starblazers" as a Specialist 5. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his acts of valor. These included the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, and the Expert Marksman Medal in both M-16 and M-14 rifles.  Larry retired from Blue Ridge Papers with 36 years of dedicated service. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish among the mountains where he was born and raised.  In the words of his family, “Larry was a 'Loafer',” who enjoyed endless hours visiting and having conversations with his many friends and always making new acquaintances wherever he went. Mr. Robinson had attended Beulah Baptist Church in Canton. He loved his family deeply and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Messer Robinson; his sister-in-law, Dora Robinson; and a nephew, Jeremy Robinson.

Surviving are his brothers, Gary Robinson of Canton, and Alan Robinson of Canton; a daughter, Brenda Rabb and Jeff of Canton; a grandson, Christopher Rabb and Meaghan of Canton; a granddaughter, Makayla Rabb of Canton; great-grandchildren, Carsen and Mia Rabb; a niece, Amy Robinson; and many friends.   

A service of remembrance with military honors to celebrate the life of Mr. Robinson will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2022 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Pastor Barry Clark will be officiating.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Robinson’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1990 Fordham Drive, Suite 100, Fayetteville, NC 28034.
