Canton – On Thursday, June 9, 2022, Linda Montene Stamey Williams, a beloved and gracious lady, entered into her Heavenly home.

Montene’s life journey began on March 6, 1947, being born to the late George Liston Stamey and the late Margaret Ileta Hall Stamey.

She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, and Montene had been employed as a medical secretary with several medical facilities throughout the area. Together with her husband Troy, she enjoyed camping at Little River where wonderful memories were made, and also accompanying him across the United States on his long-distance trucking trips. Waynesville was a favorite place where Montene and her sister Carole enjoyed shopping and casually strolling along the downtown streets. Her most precious moments were always spent with her family, and she held a deep love for each and every one of them. Mrs. Williams was a member of West Canton Baptist Church where she was also a member of the church choir. The life of Montene Williams has been a blessing to those who knew her and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Williams who passed away in 2017.

Surviving are her sister, Carole Hyatt and husband Bobby; brother, George “Bucky” Stamey and wife Helen; and sister-in-law, Sue Trull all of Canton.

A graveside service to remember and celebrate the life of Montene Stamey Williams will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 13, 2022 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery (Newfound Road) in Canton. Pastor Ed Lowder will be officiating.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the family of Montene Williams.

Such fond memories when you all lived across the street from us. I thought Montene. Was a movie star when I was little and Carole was a model . RIP Montene.

Montene for several months was in the church choir and was a faithful member and since I had returned to church after being out with my husband being sick she made me feel welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and I will certainly miss her.

I am so sad to hear of Montene’s passing! I was named after her and she would often joke about the names and the power of it. I will miss her much!

Growing up, my sister and I lived just a few houses away. There were many days (during junior and high school) we spent may days drinking iced tea out of metal tumblers on the front porch with Ileta and their Aunt Frances Hall. We actually spent more time with Montene and Carol then at our house. Ileta even drove us to school. Bucky and I was in the same graduating class. Ileta and Speedy could have claimed Alice and me on their taxes! Montene was a wonderful friend as was Carole Ann. They were a wonderful family and I remember them with love and prayers.

This lovely lady was my “Aunt Montene” and was always considered a part of our family. I will always remember her for her laughter, smile, and great humor. She brought joy anytime she was around. My thoughts and prayers go out to those mourning the loss of her. May God carry you each through this valley.
