Madeleine Roberts Bennett, age 81, passed away peacefully at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 30, 2023.

Madeleine was born in Canton, North Carolina, lived various places but felt the need to return to Canton to become a fully devoted caregiver for her parents. Madeleine retired from J. Crew.  She had a love for dancing, hiking, animals and nature. She was uniquely blessed with a giving spirit and volunteered for nonprofits including Girl Scouts, The Arc of Haywood County, and the Canton VFW Auxiliary.  Madeleine was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church.

Every moment of the last years of her life were spent with an exceptional full-time companion/friend, her cat named "Princess" who was the World to her.

She was loved and will truly be missed by her daughter, Dorinda.

Madeleine was predeceased by her parents, J.C. “Dusty” Roberts and Mildred Surrett Roberts; and her brother, Jerry William Roberts. Surviving are her daughter, Dorinda Bennett (Keith Haynes); her sisters, Diane Brenner (Ralph Brenner) and Linda Carol Roberts (James K. Logue); and her nephew, Russ Brenner (Lisa Brenner).

To honor the life of Madeleine, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Gordon Pike and Pastor Clay Morgan will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madeleine’s memory to The Arc of Haywood County, 407 Welch Street, Waynesville, North Carolina, 28786.

The family would like to say a special thank you to her lifelong physician, Dr. Randy Tryon, and a very special appreciation to all of the staff at CarePartners Solace Center, who provided extraordinary end-of-life care, not only to her but to the family.

Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Bennett family.
