Mary Lou Reed Caldwell
A Giving and Caring Lady
Canton- Peace will come when we hardly notice, like the first star in the evening sky or as a beautiful flower sways in the cool breeze of a September afternoon. Peace comes softly and we know that all is well. During the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 14, 2021 Mary Lou Reed Caldwell, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home, and in our hearts we know that all is well.
Mary Lou was born February 12, 1932 in Haywood County to the late James Earl Reed and the late Eula Edna Wiley Reed. All throughout her life’s journey, she has lived her life in the Lord’s service. Mrs. Caldwell was a faithful member of Waynesville Christian Fellowship where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and also as a leader of the Waynesville Women’s Club. Mary Lou was her family's Prayer Warrior and she spent endless hours each day in prayer. A most gracious and caring lady, she opened her home to many families and missionaries over the years and her kindness touched the heart of everyone blessed to know her. Her home was the gathering place for her family and loved ones to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and any other special day in between. Mary Lou’s greatest joy was having her family all together. She was an avid gardener and she enjoyed tending her lovely flowers and making certain that the hummingbirds that visited the Caldwell home were well cared for. We rejoice and give thanks for the life of Mary Lou Reed Caldwell who has been an example to follow of a devoted Christian, a loving wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear sister. In the words of her family, “She is walking with the Lord on this day.” All is well.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, Dennis Reece Caldwell who passed away June 21, 2021, and also her brothers, James, Nook, and Ernest Reed.
Surviving are her son, Alan Caldwell and Sue of Canton; her daughter, Denise Holcombe and Donald of Canton; granddaughters, Nicole Wilson and Shane, Holly Gibbs and Josh, Rachel Sellers and Will, and Lisa Caldwell; great-grandchildren; Easton and Emmalyn Wilson, Callie Gibbs, Madeline Sellers and the precious blessings of Baby Gibbs and Baby Sellers on the way; her siblings, Melvin and Freda Reed and Jimmie Duke; also a multitude of friends that will miss her deeply.
A service of remembrance and celebration of Mrs. Caldwell’s life will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Waynesville Christian Fellowship, 1115 Dellwood Road, Waynesville, NC 28786. Josh Gibbs will be leading the service.
