Waynesville- On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Maxine Smith Rogers, age 77, of Inman Branch Road, entered into her Heavenly home and was once again united with her precious loved ones waiting at Heaven’s gate for their precious Maxine. Mrs. Rogers was born April 17, 1937 in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late E. L. Smith and the late Laura Sarah Noland Smith. Maxine was blessed to be able to travel all across the south east as her husband’s employment led them to many destinations but she always considered Haywood County and the mountains that she loved to be her home. Mrs. Rogers was of the Baptist faith. She was indeed a wonderful cook and her hot dogs and homemade chili and her delicious southern fried chicken and potato salad were favorites of all the family and her many friends. She truly loved flowers and she could often be found spending many hours working in her beautiful flower garden. Maxine’s heart overflowed with her great love and pride for her children and her grandchildren. She was loved by everyone and Maxine truly had a kind and caring heart. In the words of her family, “ She was truly a Mom to many,” and she has made a difference in the lives of those blessed to know her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Rogers who passed away in 2000; brothers, Smitty Smith and Howard Smith and a sister, Ann Gibson. Surviving are her daughters, Donna Gillespie and her husband, Bruce Gillespie of Leicester, Meryl Burke and her husband, Perry Burke of Candler and Lisa Clough and her husband, Curt Cloug of Effingham, IL; a son, Gerald Rogers and his wife, Phyllis Rogers of Waynesville; a sister, Vera Heath of Canton; her grandsons, Jason, Kyle, Mark, Michael, Randy, Brian, Kevin and Nathan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. Pastor Nathan Ashe and Pastor Ronnie Blythe will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Canton. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Morris, Scott McMillian, Bruce Chambers, Danny Sorrells, Steve Howell and John Sealander. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Crawford / Ray Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Rogers family
