Nancy Cagle Reed
Loved Her Family Dearly

Canton- Nancy Ann Cagle Reed, age 92, a precious and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was carried to her eternal home by Heaven’s angels on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
Nancy was born in the fall season of November 13, 1927 to the late Homer V. Cagle and the late Macy Cabe Cagle. She grew up in Canton where her family were the owners and operators of Homer Cagle’s Store and where friendships and memories were made that Nancy cherished throughout her lifetime. She was a devoted homemaker and her life was centered around her family- protecting, loving, and caring for them each and every day. Nancy made her home a warm and welcome place and she was truly a wonderful cook. Her "red meat and gravy” were one of her family favorites. For many years she had collected a wide array of vintage “hen on a nest" candy dishes, which she so proudly displayed throughout her home and they were always admired by everyone. Her heart runneth over with great pride and joy for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As her son, Dennis, portrays Santa Claus all throughout Western North Carolina, Nancy had become well known as " Santa’s Mother" and she never failed to give a smile when someone addressed her in that special way. Mrs. Reed was blessed with a loving and kind spirit and she was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Canton. One could never find a kinder or sweeter lady than Nancy and we shall forever treasure her memory and the delightful twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She shall be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alton A.E. “Nook” Reed who passed away in 2011; a son, Rickey Reed; a daughter, Edwina Reed; and a sister, RuthaLee Cagle Hemphill
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis “Santa” Reed and his wife, Deborah of Canton; her daughter, who had lovingly cared for her mother for the past six years, Kathey Reed Blazer of Canton; grandchildren, Willie Blazer and Robin of Ennis, MT, Wendy Blazer Reynoso of Pensacola, FL, Tracy Reed Frazier and Colby of Waynesville, Christy Cole Green of Canton, Cary Jo Cole and Nathan of Canton, Tabatha Head Frizzell and David of Canton, Micah Reed and Chance of Brevard, and Shane Reed of Brevard; 22 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly; her fur babies, Miss Prissy and NaNook; also a special neighbor and friend, Daniel, who kindly worked so hard around Nancy’s home.
The Reed family would like to extend a heartfelt word of thanks to the staff of Silver Bluff Village and Rehab for taking such excellent care of Nancy for the past year and a half. “We are thankful and appreciate you.”
No formal funeral services are planned for Mrs. Reed at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Reed’s memory to Silver Bluff Village, Activities Fund, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
