Candler- Pastor Winfred Eric Bennett, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 9, 2020. On this day he entered into his appointed place of glory to be eternally with his Lord and Savior.

Winfred was born October 6, 1942 in Union, South Carolina to the late Lloyd Bennett and the late Hurble Holland Bennett. He had made his home in Haywood and Buncombe Counties most of his life and was loved and well known throughout Western North Carolina as a man who blessed each person that he met with his kindness and his friendly smile, always touching the hearts of so many. Pastor Bennett graduated from Temple Baptist Bible College in 1982 and was called to serve as the Pastor of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Canton for 39 dedicated years.  On Father’s Day of this year, Pastor Bennett shared his great love of his Lord and Savior and a message of faith with his beloved church family congregation that will never be forgotten.  This was his last sermon preached at Harmony Grove Baptist Church and his words on that day touched the hearts of everyone. Winfred was a man who loved the outdoors and he often enjoyed hunting among the mountains and fishing in his favorite streams. He was also a talented carpenter and his craftsmanship was admired by many.  Pastor Bennett truly dedicated his life to serving his Lord and his immeasurable love for his family was an example for all men to follow. He was a faithful husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, and indeed a good friend to everyone.  We shall remember Pastor Bennett with these words- “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Pressley, and an infant baby sister, Dorsa Mae.

Left to carry his memory in their hearts forever are his loving wife of 55 ½ years, Carolyn Pressley Bennett; his children, Eric Bennett and Erica, Michael Bennett and Amy, Chad Bennett and Donda, and Angela King and Matthew; grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin), Hayden, Chase, Neely, Ethan, Addison, Emma, Bryce, and Samantha; his brothers, Kenneth, Winston, Ronnie, and Ross Bennett; his sisters, Brenda Lanning and Diane Farley; numerous nieces and nephews, his church family, and a multitude of friends.

A funeral service to honor and remember the wonderful life of Pastor Bennett will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church. Pastor Chad Bennett, Preacher Ronnie Bennett, and Pastor Tommy Crowe will be officiating. Burial will follow in Center Pigeon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Bennett family.

I want to tell each of Winfred’s family members how much my heart hurts for y’all in the loss of this great man. Your husband, your Daddy, your Papaw, your brother, your Uncle; yet my heart rejoices to know he is now with his Lord and Savior in Heaven, of who and where he has so fervently and faithfully shared the gospel about for all these years! Pastor Winfred Bennett has touched the lives of so many people! I will forever remember him telling me every bible school how glad he was I let my boys come. I can hear his voice as I type this. I will forever remember 3 of my boys getting saved after hearing him preach at bible school. One in Harmony Grove itself and two after they came home from bible school at his church. I will forever be grateful for him sharing the gospel with my boys. Always making us feel so welcome. I will forever remember him loving to “pick” with the boys and girls of New Hope Bluegrass gospel. Oh how he loved to hear them play and sing. He beamed with pride, especially over his grands in the group! I have never sat at a ballgame around him where he wasn’t bragging on one of you! I know you know he was proud of y’all, but let me tell ya how he would tell me the accomplishments each of you had made in the recent times each time. He beamed with happiness while telling me ! He loved his family so much and was so proud of each of you. The way he looked at his beloved wife, his sweetheart.... oh how you could see the love he felt. Times will be hard..For his family, for his church family, for those who love him...... lean on each other and love one another the way he raised his family! Y’all have had a goodly heritage, and the hope to see him again in Heaven! I love y’all and y’all are in my thoughts and prayers!❤️

A Faithful man to the Lord's work describes Winfred very well. I also know very well that the minute Winfred entered Heaven he was singing to the top of his voice the songs No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus and He Reached Way Down For Me.

My my my what a great man of God, supporter and friend of the gospel ministry Preacher Bennett was. I so much enjoyed our last earthly conversation I had with him in March and the prayer we had together on the phone. I'm thankful for the hope that we have in the gospel. May the God of Heaven continue to comfort the family during these times. A Servant for Christ Todd Bell #Maine
