With our hearts full of love and cherished memories, we are saddened to announce the passing of Peggy Elizabeth Worley Pressley, age 85, who was carried to her eternal heavenly home by the angels on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Peggy was born during the blessed Christmas season of December 27, 1938, to the late Howard Sherman Worley and the late Hazel Marie West Worley. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County with the exception of the years she had resided in Roswell, New Mexico with her husband and the love of her life, Melvin Pressley, while he was stationed there during his military career. Peggy’s life was filled with rich and meaningful friendships, who will forever hold onto her memory and the joy she brought to others.

She was the epitome of a wonderful homemaker, whose devotion to her family was evident every single day of her life.  Peggy’s kindness and concern for others extended beyond her home, she was instrumental in establishing the Haywood Pathways “ Pocketbook Ministries” Program which reaches out to those less fortunate and in need. This was very important to Peggy.

It seemed as if her hands were always busy, working in her garden and raising fresh vegetables that she spent endless hours canning and freezing during the summer season. Peggy always made everyone feel welcome to the Pressley home and she was a true example of a lady of grace and compassion.

She held a strong Christian faith and lived her life as an example for others to follow. She attended Plains Methodist Church in Canton where she was deeply loved by her church family. In remembering Peggy, we will never forget her unmeasurable love for her devoted husband and her beautiful daughter- they were her life.

In her quiet moments, she enjoyed reading and found great solace within the pages of countless books. Peggy’s life will continue to inspire us to be a better person, to do kind deeds for others, and to always have compassion for those around us. Her sweet spirit will always remain a part of us, just as the gentle breeze whispers through the trees or we catch a glimpse of a beautiful delicate butterfly- Peggy is with us forever.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Duncan.

Surviving are her loving husband of 67 years, Melvin Pressley of Leicester; her daughter, Melanie Pressley of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her brothers, Larry Worley of Leicester and Sam Worley and his wife, Sarah of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews who were a source of great joy in her life and whom she loved just like children and grandchildren; and also her precious black poodle, "Apache" who Peggy adored.

A service of remembrance to celebrate the life of Mrs. Pressley will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, May 13, 2024, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Reverend Billy Clark and Reverend Farron Duncan will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery in Leicester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Pressley's memory to Plains Methodist Church, 2029 Newfound Road, Canton, NC 28716

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is deeply honored to be caring for the Pressley family.

We are sorry for your loss. Melanie, your mom sounds like you. A loving, caring Christian lady. I like how she started an organization for people who are less fortunate. Look to the God of All comfort to comfort you. Remember you will see her again. Blessed be God, even the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies, the God of All comfort. Who Comforts us in all our tribulation. That we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort we're with we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Corinthians 1:4-5.
