Canton — On Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, a loving mother, beloved grandmother, great-grandmother and dear sister, Phyllis Jewel Justice Putnam, 70, entered into the glorious gates of her eternal heavenly home.

Jewel was born Aug. 28, 1945 in Haywood County to the late William Carl and Mary Ann Hicks Justice. She had resided in Haywood County most of her life and before her retirement she had been employed at the former Midway Pharmacy in Clyde and had also worked at Midway Medical Center where Jewel made many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Jewel was a faithful member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church and had served for many years as the chairman of the church food committee which blessed many families during the loss of a loved one. Jewel was a giving and compassionate lady, and she was a true example for each of us to follow. Jewel will always be remembered by a special child in Honduras whose life she blessed with her giving heart by making certain her needs were met and by funding her education so that she might have a better life. Jewel loved her Lord and her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially her pride and joy. Jewel Justice Putnam will be deeply missed by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Rogers and her husband, Mark, of Candler; her son, Robert V. Putnam and his wife, Robyn, of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Rev. Logan Rogers and his wife, Aubrey, of Wake Forest, Caitlin McCarson and her husband, Rev. Derrick McCarson, of Candler, T.J. Troughton and his wife, Meredith, of Weaverville, Crystal Christy and her husband, Rev. Zack Christy, of Canton; and 5 precious great-grandchildren, Daniel William McCarson, Hudson Vaughn Rogers, John Elijah “Eli” Christy, Ivey Noel Rogers and Sawyer Thomas Troughton. She is also survived by two sisters, Wilma Jean Bennett and her husband, Kenneth, of Canton and Betty Santos of Waynesville; and two brothers, Doyle Justice and his wife, Gloria, of Waynesville and Ben Justice of Greenville, SC.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Center Pigeon Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Logan Rogers and Zack Christy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Putnam family.
