A Kind and Caring Man
Canton – Roby Brookshire, age 76, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Haywood County, Roby was born February 14, 1945, son of the late Garland Brookshire and the late Addie Ledford Brookshire. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Pat Brookshire.
Mr. Brookshire had honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of HCC where he had earned his degree in electrical systems technology and had started his own electrical contracting company where his expertise and skill were well-known and highly thought of throughout the area.
Roby loved to go fishing and it has been thought by more than one person that he would rather fish than eat. On Sundays, Roby enjoyed watching NASCAR, and when he wasn’t fishing or watching the race, he could be found working his flower beds. Roby was an outgoing, caring, charitable, and kind-hearted man who at times even accepted cake instead of money for some work he had done for others in the community. Mr. Brookshire was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he had attended faithfully until his illness kept him at home. Roby always found a way to stay positive in any situation, and his wife Linda remembers with deep love one of his sayings, “Mama, next year will be better, baby.” Roby’s caring and encouraging spirit will remain forever with those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda Carter Brookshire; daughter, Angel Goode (Ronnie) of Canton; grandchildren, Eric Colby Goode and Devon Timothy Goode of Canton; brothers, Morris Brookshire of Canton, and Jim Brookshire of Severn, MD; two “honorary daughters,” Sarah Morgan (Heath) of Maggie Valley, and Brandi Moore (Ronnie) of Reevesville, SC; as well as many nieces, nephews, and adopted children.
A funeral service to honor and remember the life of Mr. Brookshire will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2021 at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Canton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated, and memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice at 571 S Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
