Sarah, Jim and Katharine, Roy was my mentor and friend. He took me by the hand and patiently guided me and taught me what it is to be a good caring lawyer and person to my clients. We handled many cases together and although those cases were sometimes difficult I always enjoyed my time listening and learning from him. I have many stories and experiences with him I will cherish. He had a great love for his family that I admired. He always spoke of all of you endearingly. Roy and I were cousins as well, as his Mother was my Grandfather’s first cousin. He was also the age of my Father and often times I felt he took me under his wing as a son as he showed me how to make the place a better world through our profession. I will miss him very much as I know you will. I am forever grateful for the time I had with him on this earth. My prayers are with you in the loss of your husband and father. He will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Roy and I were law school classmates and later were law partners out of our Waynesville office. I always respected Roy’s knowledge and kindly advice as we practiced as Alley, Hyler, Killian, Kersten, Davis and Smathers. (I hope I remember the name correctly). He then left to be our District Attorney.
