Forever In Our Hearts

May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten.

Barbara Susan Medford Hyatt, age 71, was carried to her heavenly home by the angels on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Susan was born in the fall season on November 2, 1951, to the late Boyce Medford and the late Nellie Snyder Medford.

She had made her home in Haywood County all of her life and with her kind, caring personality Susan was blessed with wonderful friends and everlasting friendships throughout her life. She will always be remembered as a true and steadfast friend. Susan graduated from Pisgah High School and chose to continue her education at Haywood Community College. Always good with numbers, she graduated with an Associate Degree in business which led to her employment with TA Travel Center in Candler where Susan was definitely committed to her business career and later retired with many years of dedicated service.

Following her retirement, Susan enjoyed her time at home, especially making her way around the kitchen baking her favorite “goodies”, her delicious cookies, and creating the perfect brownie recipe with glazed icing!

Susan was indeed a beautiful person inside and out and her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She felt that her greatest achievement in life were her children -they were both her pride and joy. Susan also greatly cherished her relationship with her sister. She delighted in being a grandmother and her beautiful 11-year-old granddaughter was the light of her life. Susan also had a compassionate heart for all animals and this was truly evident in her great love for her special dog, “Lucy”.

Susan held a strong faith. She was a member of Long’s United Methodist Church where she had attended with her family all of her life. Susan held precious memories of attending Sunday School, Bible School, and Homecomings at her home church.

Susan adored the color pink! When asked to make a decision regarding a color choice, her words were always “It has to be pink of course !"   As we look at a magical evening sunset and witness the breathtaking colors of pink we will always think of our beloved Susan. We think of her and know that all is well.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronnie and Drew Medford.

Surviving are her daughter, Wendy Hyatt of Canton; her son, Ryan Hyatt and his wife Jennifer of Clyde; her granddaughter, Emma; her sister, Janice Medford of Lake City, Florida; a niece, Jamie; a nephew, Josh and his wife, Sabrina; great-nephews, Darrin, Derick, and Dylan; her former husband and father of her children, David Hyatt; a sister-in-law, Debbie Medford; and a host of wonderful cousins and friends.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Susan will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Pastor Shane McIntosh will be officiating. Burial will in Long's Community Cemetery, Coffee Branch Road. Serving as pallbearers are David Hyatt, Jeff Hyatt, Tracy Rogers, Jeremy Queen, Mark Davis, and Jeremy Brown.

Memorials may be made in Susan's memory to the Long's Cemetery Fund, 587 Evans Road, Canton, NC 28716.

Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored to be caring for the Hyatt family.

I am saddened by knowing that Susan has passed. I knew her in our school days and remember her as a gentle, soft-spoken girl. Through our adult years, we lost contact and went on our different journies in life. My sincere sympathies to her family and friends.

Susan was a wonderful person with an energetic personality. She and her family lived within walking distance of our home and her mother was friends with my mother. Her sister and I were in school together and I always enjoyed when we were around Susan. I don't remember ever seeing her without a smile. She will me missed tremendously. With deepest sympathy and condolences.
