Tommie F. Swanger, age 84, a lifelong resident of Haywood County, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 in the comfort of her home.

Tommie was born April 10, 1935 in Haywood County to the late Bessie Baines Taylor and the late Eldon Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thad Swanger, Jr.; sons, Chipper Davis; grandsons, Keith Davis, Travis Martin; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Sky. 

Surviving are children, Bootsy Hassler, Peggy Sutton, Sammy Sisk, Wayne Smathers, Teri Murray; 13 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

She was employed by American Enka in Candler until her retirement after many years of dedicated service. She was also employed as a Guest Safety Officer of Harrah's Casino where she was well-loved. Her beautiful smile and her playful personality will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Guy Hassler for his special tender care of our mother. Tommie loved Guy as her own son. The family also extends a special thank you to the Kingdom Hall of Waynesville, as well as a thank you for the prayers and words on kindness from Tommie’s friends from Facebook and her friends from Farmtown and Yoville.

A private memorial service was held at her home.

Memorials may be made in Tommie’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28207.
