Vera Bernice Mills Wilson, affectionately known as “Cheat,” passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Vera was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Mills Conley; her stepfather, Joe Lewis Conley; her brother, Phillip Mills; her husband, Leroy Wilson; and her beloved pet, Mercedes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Rodney J. Mills; Daughter-in-law Teresa Mills; daughter Mary Wilson; her sisters, Nancy Mills and Julia Hicks; her grandchildren, Danny Hardison, April Chapman, Zev Mills, Sierra Mills Burnham, and Dorothy Mills; and five great-grandchildren, along with other family members and dear friends.

Vera had a beautiful love for music and especially enjoyed singing. She was a devoted member of the Voices of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where her love of singing and fellowship touched the lives of many.

Those who knew Vera will remember her for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the joy she brought to the lives of those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on through her family, her music, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on  Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Canton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Though our hearts are broken by this loss, I just know my dad was jumping with joy to welcome his sister through the pearly gates. I can only imagine the fun they are all having together as we process the pain of Auntie Vera's passing. Auntie Vera was so loving, kind, and caring. She fed us whenever we visited, and her laughter spread joy in an instant. One of my favorite memories was learning as an adult that she was the one pretending to be Santa on Christmas Eve at her house. That was just who she was, someone who gave of herself so that others could feel the magic. My prayer for the family now is that God will wrap you in His peace that surpasses all understanding, comfort you in your sorrow, and fill your days with sweet memories and song. May Auntie Vera rest in heavenly peace, and may her love continue to walk beside you every day.
