Canton- William “Billy” Carlton Johnson, age 67, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021.

Billy was born August 6, 1954 in Haywood County where he had made his home all of his life.  He retired from Evergreen Paper with 33 years of dedicated service and was a Champion Old Timer.  Billy was a skilled welder and indeed a man with many talents. He could construct and fix anything that came his way to be repaired. His passion was his love of cars and he will be remembered for being a part of the “Black Car Gang” in Canton during his younger years. Billy was blessed with a multitude of friends. His friendly personality, his unforgettable smile, and his special way of striking up a conversation were truly gifts. Summers spent at Lake Chatuge were wonderful and happy times for Billy and his family. He was a man deeply loved by everyone. Our joys are greater and our lives are fuller because we were blessed to have Billy. He may be gone from our sight but never from our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Johnson; and his beloved daughter, Kendra Johnson.

Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Brenda Styles Johnson; his mother, Sandra Scott Johnson of Canton; his children, Stacey Johnson (Lisa Parker) of Canton, David Calloway (Shelly) of Asheville; and Lisa McMinn of Asheville; grandchildren, Kelcey Fields and Cole Rivers; great-grandchildren, Thiea Fields, Mason Rivers, and Barrett Fields; his sister, Kim Jackson (David Cutshall) of Canton; his brother, Kelly Johnson (Ateia) of Canton; his special nieces, Ava Johnson and Ella Johnson; his special nephew, Kane Jackson; his dedicated friend, Roger Sutton of Canton; also Billy’s little Chihuahua, Molly.

Billy was my first friend; lucky me! We played in the grass, leaves and snow, down the road to the creek and through the woods together. Growing up, we enjoyed each long Summer day and every season. Walking to or from school, he carried my books. He was my hero especially the day of Granddaddy's accident and emergency; a sound of help needed and Billy was right there. Everything said about Billy is true, beautifully expressed and of course, there's so very much more ... Sending loving condolences to All the Family and Friends. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers and share your sadness. Forever Friends Billy, The Enloe and Mathews Families
