William "Billy" C. Johnson
Canton- William “Billy” Carlton Johnson, age 67, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021.
Billy was born August 6, 1954 in Haywood County where he had made his home all of his life. He retired from Evergreen Paper with 33 years of dedicated service and was a Champion Old Timer. Billy was a skilled welder and indeed a man with many talents. He could construct and fix anything that came his way to be repaired. His passion was his love of cars and he will be remembered for being a part of the “Black Car Gang” in Canton during his younger years. Billy was blessed with a multitude of friends. His friendly personality, his unforgettable smile, and his special way of striking up a conversation were truly gifts. Summers spent at Lake Chatuge were wonderful and happy times for Billy and his family. He was a man deeply loved by everyone. Our joys are greater and our lives are fuller because we were blessed to have Billy. He may be gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Johnson; and his beloved daughter, Kendra Johnson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Brenda Styles Johnson; his mother, Sandra Scott Johnson of Canton; his children, Stacey Johnson (Lisa Parker) of Canton, David Calloway (Shelly) of Asheville; and Lisa McMinn of Asheville; grandchildren, Kelcey Fields and Cole Rivers; great-grandchildren, Thiea Fields, Mason Rivers, and Barrett Fields; his sister, Kim Jackson (David Cutshall) of Canton; his brother, Kelly Johnson (Ateia) of Canton; his special nieces, Ava Johnson and Ella Johnson; his special nephew, Kane Jackson; his dedicated friend, Roger Sutton of Canton; also Billy’s little Chihuahua, Molly.
A funeral service to honor and remember Billy will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 16, 2021 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Chris Willett will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. Serving as pallbearers will be, Roger Sutton, Steve Edwards, Joe Robinson,Brad Messer,Doug Farmer, Mike Shook,Roy Campbell and Keith Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Church, David Hannah,Gene Carver, Perry McClure, Bobby Justice,Jerry McCracken,George Foster and members of the Canton Fire Department where Billy was a member,
Memorials may be made in Billy’s memory to one’s favorite charity.
